"It is not enough to discover Christ - you must bring Him to others!
The world today is one great mission land, even in countries of
long-standing Christian tradition." -- Pope John Paul II
First and foremost, we encourage your support for the annual March for Life and participation in Operation Holy Presence if possible on that day. In addition and most importantly, we urge all pro-life supporters to participate in Operation Holy Presence on another date by organizing a field trip to the offices of their Representatives and Senators within the Capitol Complex and to tour our beautiful U.S. Capitol Building while Congress is in session as an advocate for life. In addition to experiencing the interior splendor of the Capitol Building through the eyes of faith, these field trips will provide an important and interesting civics lesson for future leaders of America, further increasing a pro-life presence in Washington, D.C. on a day-by-day basis. All participants in Operation Holy Presence are asked to sign the Visitors Petition (pdf or doc) urging Congressmen and Senators to support the reversal of Roe v. Wade and to defend the dignity of all human life from the moment of conception until natural death. Participants are also requested to sign an official Pledge Form (pdf or doc) with a respectful understanding that they will participate in a quiet Christ-like manner with generosity of heart and a tenderness of spirit either while waiting outside or visiting the Capitol Building or the Capitol Complex. Petitions are to be delivered to the offices of their respective Congressmen and Senators which are located within the Capitol Complex. We suggest that participants in Operation Holy Presence refrain from public prayer or displaying any signs or banners while waiting outside or visiting the Capitol Building or the Capitol Complex. However, wearing shirts, hats, jackets and badges identifying your group and private prayer is encouraged.
Congress is in session
throughout the year; however recess varies according
to holidays, national elections and national emergencies. The
telephone number to the Capitol switchboard
(1-202-224-3121) will provide the
current Congressional schedule and specific office locations
of the Congressmen and Senators.
According to the
new U.S. Capitol Visitor Center for January 2009, all
U.S. citizens are welcome to go directly to the offices of their
Representatives and Senators without making prior arrangements.
Also, there are many
other wonderful points of interest located in and
around our nation's Capital for all to view. We
suggest that you set time aside to visit the
National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception
for Holy Mass and meals. The telephone number to the National Shrine
is 1-202-526-8300. A letter from John Paul II, February 20, 1999 to Cardinal William Henry Keeler, Archbishop of Baltimore and former Chairman of the U.S. Bishops' Committee for Pro-life activities states, "All pro-life action must be both educational and political. There must be a thorough catechesis on the Gospel of Life at all levels of the Catholic community. Catholics imbibe much of their surrounding culture, and therefore this catechesis needs to challenge the prevailing culture at those points where human dignity and rights are threatened. Such a catechesis has as its goal that shift of perception and a change of heart which accompany true conversion (cf. Eph 4:23). The call to conversion must ring out in your homes, in your parishes and in your schools, with complete confidence that the Church's teaching about the inviolability of life is deeply in tune with both right reason and the deepest longings of the human heart. This educational effort will increasingly open the way for Catholics to exercise a positive public influence as citizens of their country, without false appeals to the separation of Church and State in a way that consigns the Christian vision of human dignity to the realm of private belief. The choice in favour of life is not a private option but a basic demand of a just and moral society." In addition to our Holy Father, we wish to thank every devoted lay person, priest, deacon and religious and all our faithful pro-life leaders, Cardinals and Bishops involved in earnest in this pious movement to end the unimaginable crimes against human life. God is with us. Let us collaborate with Our Lady, our Mother and Queen of all virtues in giving glory to God by modeling Christ. And, let us pray always and say the holy rosary with confidence as we work together as a country for the support and the success of Operation Holy Presence as another means of bringing to conclusion the culture of death. Let us go now in peace to love and serve the Lord. O’Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee.
